2000 ColloquiumThe impact of Women Waging Peace has been felt around the world since the launch of the initiative in December 1999. Preparations for the second annual Women Waging Peace colloquium are at full throttle. Seventy delegates will join policy shapers, academics, philanthropists, and others committed to furthering the work of the Initiative in Cambridge, November 4-18, 2000. Daily sessions for the delegates will focus on coalition building, sharing strategies, and sharpening skills. The Research Symposium (November 10-12) will bring scholars together with women peace builders to discuss advance in scholarship on the role of women as leaders in conflict resolution an regional stabilization. The second Policy Day (November 17) will continue the process of making direct connections between policyshapers and the people directly affected by their decisions, and provide delegates the opportunity to share their perspectives with key policy officials, journalists, and others involved in peace making efforts. The colloquium will open with a celebratory performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, the “Ode to Joy,” sponsored by EMC Corporation. Four new conflict areas have been added to the Women Waging Peace network, and 40 new delegates will attend the colloquium from those areas. The new conflict areas, and the local partner organizations, are: Burundi: CAFOB [Conseil des Associations Feminins et ONGs du Burundi] (Umbrella of Women’s Associations and Non-Governmental Organizations of Burundi) Mexico: SERAPAZ (Peace Advising Services) Russia: Union of the Committees of Soldiers’ Mothers Sri Lanka: International Center for Ethnic Studies |
